The Birth
I did not revive the "birth plan" prepared and quickly forgotten during my first labor experience. This labor and delivery would write a story as unique as the little one starting life with us. Determined to be flexible, I tried to decipher what two weeks of contractions meant for us. Might my body need a kickstart? The labor inducing pizza...couldn't hurt. Pineapple flaxseed smoothie, yum. Basil and oregano tea...check! Walking. Walking. Walking.
The wait continued to take a toll on us all, especially after a "false alarm" that started my husband's leave from work. My son went on a short vacation with family friends. They were our best option for his care, and we would now be labor ready IF she came this weekend. IF! Oh boy. My body was aching in every way possible, and only missing contractions that were close together. I spoke to the midwife on-call and she agreed I could come in and they would not send me home again. Eight days past the guess date, and I had decided that even pitocin was an option.
They broke my water at 1:10pm.
2:37pm...she is in my arms, wet and crying. Relief. A life begins, a birthdate is marked, we meet and cling to a journey all our own.
